With the improvement of China's economic status and the launch of the “Belt and Road Initiative”,more and more countries are conducting economic, trade, cultural and artistic exchanges with China. The external training class has gradually become one of the important communication windows, which has driven the demand for classroom interpreting.Classroom interpreting has its own distinct scenes and content features, featuring both professionalism and flexibility. Thus It requires the interpreter to make quick response toward the actual situation of the classroom to ensure its smoothness and efficiency. The context adaptation and structural objects adaptation take a combination of situations, participants' psychology, social culture and language habits into consideration, which can serve as a significant theoretical guide to class interpreting. From September 15 to 24,2018,the author served as class interpreter for seminar for ASEAN media officials and journalists organized by Department of Commerce of Hunan province, which is also the practical basis for this report.Considering the communicative purpose of foreign training courses and the actual needs of speakers and listeners, the author conducts case analysis from context adaptation and structural objects adaptation.By comparing the actual interpreting version with the improved version guided by adaptation theory, the author finds that adaptation theory can effectively deal with the problems and challenges such as slang and terms, implicit logic and cultural differences, thus promoting the intercommunication between speakers and participants, highlighting the translator's service awareness.Under the guidance of adaptation theory, combining with recordings and teaching materials, the author puts forward linguistic and extra-linguistic adaptation strategies to deal with the difficulties and challenges encountered in the class interpreting,in the hope of any referential value for future class interpreting tasks. |
