Since 1833,newspapers and periodicals have been introduced into China as a new form of transmission, and they began to serve the role of introducing new ideas and spread literature.Due to the frequent communication with foreign countries and loose publishing policies in eastern part of Canton, the press publishing industry was relatively developed.During the late Qing dynasty, more than 100 newspapers and periodicals were published in Canton, but only half of them can be found now.At present, there are 19 kinds of newspapers and periodicals containing Ci Poetry, and the number of Ci Poetry runs up to 142.This article will take Ci Poetry which came off the press in the late Qing dynasty as the main research object. There are two reasons for selection of publication by the newspapers and periodicals: on the one hand,Ci Poetry is not influenced by the theme and nature of the press, thus the section of Ci Poetry could exist as independent column;one the other hand, the Press Ci Poetry is regarded as a rhythmic reasoning tool, whose main purpose is to serve the theme pf the press.Influenced by the form of publication, the origins and identities of the Ci-poetry authors were different from those of the traditional text. The writers of the Press Ci Poetry were mainly press colleagues and full-time authors who received remuneration. The former made newspapers and periodicals become a response front in some sense, while the latter caused circumstances of anonymous authors.Although the Press Ci Poetry belongs to different publications, and the authors had distinct identities and opinions, the works of Ci Poetry spontaneously paid attention to subjects such as scholars' mentality, women and love, hometown and journey and so forth.Written by different authors, these motifs had different forms of expressions, which reflected the conflict and blending between traditional thoughts and new ideas. In terms of the artistic features of the text, due to the influence of factors such like carriers, times and so on,the writing style of the works was simple and militant. Some foreign words and images have appeared, which objectively improved the creation of Ci Poetry with characteristics of the times, but during the process of exploration, some original excellences have been lost.In general, the emergence of the Press Ci poetry not only changed the way of Ci-poetry publication, but also brought changes about styles, expression content, forms of communication and so forth.
