With the rise of the concept of lifelong education and College English Teaching Curriculum Requirements formulated in 2017,language workers at home and abroad have been also aware of the importance of cultivating students' autonomous learning ability.In recent years,with the rapid development of the international economy the English education of sports and arts majors has been paid more attention but a common problem existing in them is that they are a lack of the English autonomous ability.Based on the above reasons,the paper aims to discuss the current status of English autonomous learning of arts and sports majors,coming to conclude the existing problems and finding some effective strategies to solve the problems.This study starts with the relevant concepts of English autonomous learning,and then analyzes the theoretical basis of English autonomous learning from three aspects:humanistic theory,constructivism theory and cognitive theory.In the form of questionnaire and interview from such five dimensions as learning motivation,learning content,learning strategies,learning results and learning environment,the paper investigates the current status of arts and sports majors' English autonomous learning and sums up the existing problems:lacking English learning motivation,no habits of making English learning plans,not properly using good learning strategies,weak English learning self-evaluation and adjustment of consciousness,not being good at using the external environment.Then the paper analyzes the factors that affect students,English autonomous learning ability,such as:interest,self-efficacy,strategies and external environment Finally,the author puts forward some approaches to improving the English autonomous learning ability of arts and sports majors.Firstly,stimulate their learning motivation and enhance their interest in learning and self-efficacy.Secondly,help students to set scientific teaching objectives and reasonable learning planning.Thirdly,equip students with English learning strategies.Fourthly,guide students to do self-evaluation and enrich the means of English teaching evaluation.lastly,create environment to conduet English autonomous learning by building a platform,creating learning dormitory and creating harmonious relationship among students,teachers and families.
