The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017)and the core literacy of English appeal to the first-front teachers to “use textbooks” rather than “teach textbooks” and to adapt teaching materials that suit students to help develop students physically and mentally.As the supplement of the supporting exercises for the texts,“An Experimental Research on Adapting Exercises Based on High School English Texts” was carried out,which is to raise students' learning motivation in learning English and promote teachers' idea and ability of adapting texts.Based on constructivism and motivation,two classes with similar basic conditions were chosen to carry out a one-year teaching experiment in Buji Senior High School in Shenzhen city,Guangdong province.The experiment is to adapt high school texts in line with NMET test items,including Listening Comprehension,Reading Comprehension,Cloze,Grammar Filling,Correcting Mistakes and Writing.The adapted materials were adopted into daily teaching and the teaching effect was tested.Questionnaires,tests and classroom observations were used to study the following questions: 1.Can adapted exercises help enhance students' learning motivation in the context of new curriculum reform? 2.Can adapted exercises help improve students' academic performance in the context of new curriculum reform? Likert scale,independent sample t tests and observation scale were used to test the effectiveness of the experimental research by comparing students' attitudes to the supporting exercises,the scores of the three examinations between the experimental class and the control class,and students' attitudes to the adapted materials.The research proves that the teaching of adapting high school English texts in line with NMET test items caters to students' needs,enhances students' learning motivation and improves students' academic performance.
