With the development of educational technology,modern multimedia,represented by Power Point,has been widely applied in English class,and has brought new vigor and vitality to English classes.Scholars at home and abroad also pay more and more attention to the application and effect of the PowerPoint in English teaching.However,rare studies have been concerned with the application and effect of PowerPoint and its problems existing in senior high school English teaching.Thus the paper has conducted a further investigation on this aspect.This thesis takes Anyang No.1 Senior High School as an example to investigate the present situation of the PowerPoint application to instruction in senior high school.Guided by the input theory and constructivism learning theory,and based on the questionnaire,interview and classroom observation,the investigation mainly explores the following aspects:(1)What is the present situation of PowerPoint application in English classes of senior high school?(2)What is the effect of PowerPoint application in English classes of senior high school?(3)What are the major problems with the PowerPoint application in English classes of senior high school? After analysis and discussion of the collected data,the study has drawn the following major findings.(1)Generally,PowerPoint application in Senior High School is popular.A majority of the teachers insert images,videos,audio and animation as well as apply different colors,fonts,and links when designing PowerPoint.And they also design different sorts of PowerPoint in different lessons.(2)Overall,teachers and students are positive in evaluating the effect of the PowerPoint application.Compared with the traditional blackboard-writing teaching,they prefer PowerPoint application to English teaching.Most teachers and students assert that teachers can effectively control the speed of PowerPoint playback and the amount of information.(3)There are several problems in PowerPoint application in senior high school English teaching.For instance,the content of the PowerPoint is overload;teachers are over reliant on the PowerPoint;the application of the PowerPoint produces the reduction of blackboard writing and students' abstract ability is restricted;teachers lack specialized training to design the PowerPoint so they spend much time in designing the PowerPoint.
