The simulated C-E translation report is based on a project of translating five chapters of Yu Qiuyu's Cultural Perplexity in Agonizing Travel. The book seeks to explore the essence of Chinese culture by describing landscapes and scenery. It is graceful in language, neat in sentence pattern and full of rhythms. The project aims to improve the author's application ability of translation theories and translation skills and better promote the dissemination of Chinese culture. As an important factor in the aesthetic perception of prose, rhythm helps form the melodies of the text, conjures up picture and expresses emotions.Antithesis, parallelism and repetition are employed in the prose to show the rhythmic beauty, but their differences between Chinese and English render it difficult to reproduce the rhythmic beauty. The differences in antithesis lie in its number of words and that of syllables in each word.Chinese and English parallelisms differ in the use of addition and deletion regarding the uniformity of structures. Moreover, the focus of repetition differs in generally focuses on the continuity or discontinuity of repeated language units, while English repetition focuses on the different positions of repeated language components, and the forms and meanings of words. To address the above translation difficulties, corresponding translation tactics are adopted under the guidance of Hans Robert and Wolfgang Iser's Reception Theory. The fusion of the horizon of the source text and that of the target readers,is taken into account. As for antithesis, amplification is adopted to enhance the sense of picture, rhyming and repetition boost the musical beauty, and free translation better conveys feelings. For parallelism, amplification helps conjure up pictures;omission makes it possible to directly convey feelings and conversion of sentence patterns makes therhythms more active. As for repetition, free translation better reveals the truth and emotions;and conversion helps to reserve the rhythms. The above translation tactics have effectively reproduced the rhythmic beauty of Cultural Perplexity in Agonizing Travel in the target text, and the project has helped improve the author's application ability of translation theories and translation skills. It is hoped that this report will provide useful references for other translators in dealing with similar difficulties.
