Since1978, China has been more engaged with other countries and has played an important role in the world. Translation for international communication is necessary for China to establish its image, enhance its voice and spread its traditional culture. Translation quality directly affects communication, thus translation studies for international communication now attaches increasingly more attention to research in this field.Although researches on translation on China’s international communication are numerous, few of them discuss aesthetics of translation, which is the focus of this paper. A Bite of China and its English and French versions have been chosen and studied as this popular documentary film shows the beauty of Chinese language and Chinese culture, and it is a typical work on China’s international communication. In this paper, English and French versions are compared to find out how translators can demonstrate the rhythmic beauty and artistic conception of the Chinese language and the beauty of Chinese culture. The paper concludes three innovations:1. This paper studies translation of China’s international communication from the perspective of translation aesthetics and explores how to express the beauty of Chinese language and culture in translation.2. This paper analyzes A Bite of China, a documentary broadcasted only three years ago. Researches on this documentary are very limited and mainly focus on translation of dish names and recipes. But in this paper, the documentary’s rhythmic beauty, context beauty and cultural beauty are discussed.3. This paper compares the English version and the French version. The paper comes to following conclusions:in translation of China’s international communication, accuracy is the most important, but translation aesthetics cannot be ignored either. To realize rhythmic beauty, the translation should be concise and rhythmical. To realize context beauty, key words must be translated so that readers can imagine the scene. To realize cultural beauty, words of cultural value must be translated.
