This translation report is based on the translation of the book What's Next for the Environment?.It is a popular science work for children written by British writer Tom Jackson.With the latest research and scientific developments,the book presents a picture of future environment for children in 12 topics.Under the guidance of skopos theory,this translation report intends to explore the translation strategies and methods of popular science works for children.After an introduction of the translation project and a description of the translation process,the author provides an explanation of what the skopos of this translation is and how the translation strategies are made under the skopos theory,and then three perspectives of the translation are analyzed and discussed under them.Firstly,to explore how to make good translation on each of the word,sentence and text levels,one translation technique is discussed as a representative.They are amplification,restructuring and conjunction respectively.Secondly,the ways to deal with scientific and technical terms and knowledge in translation are discussed to keep the scientificity and to facilitate children's acceptance.Thirdly,certain ways of Chinese expression may make the target text attractive and absorbing for children to read,such as modal particles and reduplicated words.Through this translation and report writing,some knowledge and understanding have been acquired about the translation of popular science works for children.It is believed that the following factors play a crucial role in the translation process: specific skopos of the target text,appropriate translation strategies and methods,and a careful consideration of children readers.More importantly,how to represent the scientific knowledge in a way that is acceptable and even enjoyable to children is the key in the process.This report is expected to be helpful in the following research of E-C translation of popular science works for children.
