A Report On The Translation Of Norse Mythology

This translation report takes Chapter Seven and Eight of Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology as its translation source text and selects some typical sentences from the two chapters for the discussion of the stylistic features and literary effects on translation of myths.The case analysis is carried out from the perspective of stylistics at phonological,lexical,syntactic as well as textual level,during which some translation experience of the author and the limitations on this project are also summarized.It is hoped,through this translation report,to shed some new light on literary translation.This translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter One is the task description,including the selection of the material and the introduction of the author and the source text.The second chapter is the description of the translation project,with the preparation for the translation,the process of translation and the proofreading included;the third chapter is the case analysis,including the introduction of stylistic approaches to translation,text analysis and case analysis;finally,the author summarizes the experience and limitations in the translation project.Through the translation practice,the translator concludes that firstly when undertaking the literary translation,the translator must first ensure the transmission of the original information,and strive to convey the meaning in the original text.Secondly,in view of the importance of oral and vividness to the mythological story,the translator should enhance his or her literary aesthetic ability to elaborately express the original.
