Academic exchange has played a significant role in today's world information transmission.Academic translation and the relevant studies, therefore, have become the hot topic among researchers. This thesis is an effort to explore how E-C translation of academic works can be better handled by following Skopos theory. It takes as the source text the collected work of feminist CDA studies Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis edited by Michelle M.Lazar and examines the issue by analyzing different specific cases of E-C translation. The book is chosen because it is the most fundamental and estimable research in terms of feminist critical discourse analysis, which has drawn more attention from cross-discipline researchers.Under the guidance of Skopos theory and by virtue of the case study approach, the text analyzes translation methods and techniques adopted in this academic translation practice from lexical, syntactical and discoursal levels.Among the major findings are: On lexical level, omission and variation translation are most commonly used to fully and accurately convey the meanings of the source text, since academic writings are replete with conceptual terms and nominalized expressions;on syntactic level, splitting, inversion, shift of word property are frequently employed to deal with complicatedly structured long sentences with clauses and non-finite verb phrases;on discourse level, cohesion and the coherence of the source text and the translated text should be taken into account in the translation process since cohesion and coherence are the core of textuality. In conclusion,by following Skopos theory, the E-C translation of academic works will do better in transmitting the message which is the primary concern in academic studies.
