According to the English Curriculum Standards,English curriculum undertakes the task of improving comprehensive humanistic quality,aiming at cultivating overall developed talents who adapt to the development of globalization.To improve students' comprehensive humanistic quality,English teachers with high professional quality should be required.As Shu pointed out,“Being a foreign language teacher,besides possessing the basic skills of an ordinary teacher,the quality to adapt to the foreign language teaching considers crucial.”.Primary English education is the initial stage of English learning.In order to improve the quality of primary English education,it is vital to improve teachers' quality,and the key is to improve the professional quality of primary English teachers.Most domestic scholars' researches on teachers' professional quality are empirical researches.On the basis of previous studies,this paper divides the dimensions of primary school English teachers' professional qualities into six parts : primary school English teachers' professional belief quality,primary school English teachers' practical competence quality,primary school English teachers' information quality,primary school English teachers' discipline professional quality,primary school English teachers' basic quality and primary school English teachers' professional ethics quality.This paper investigates the professional qualities of primary school English teachers in Hainan Province from the above six aspects,aiming at exploring following questions: 1.What is the general situation of primary school English teachers' professional quality in Hainan Province? What are the factors affecting the development of primary school English teachers' professional quality in Hainan Province? 3.How to improve the professional quality of primary school English teachers in Hainan Province?This paper firstly uses the method of regional sampling to conduct a questionnaire survey among primary school English teachers in Haikou,Wenchang,Tunchang,Baoting and Changjiang Li Autonomous County in Hainan Province,and then makes a reliability and validity analysis of the questionnaire itself.Secondly,the data collected from the survey are analyzed,and a new scale structure is constructed to describe the basic situation of primary school English teachers.The results of data analysis show that there are three factors affecting the development of primary school English teachers' professional quality in Hainan Province,including regional education development level,teachers' qualification and professional counterpart level,teaching practice and professional development mode.Therefore,the corresponding strategiesto improve the professional quality of primary school English teachers are put forward.Firstly,based on the unbalanced development of regional education in Hainan Province,the information quality of primary school English teachers should be developed.Secondly,according to the status of primary school English teachers' academic qualifications and professional counterparts in Hainan Province,we should elevate the professional belief quality of primary school English teachers.Finally,according to the teaching practice and professional development mode of primary school English teachers in Hainan Province,we can cultivate the practical ability of primary school English teachers.This paper explores new ideas and methods to improve the professional quality of primary school English teachers in Hainan Province,and provides suggestions and references for promoting the construction of primary school English teachers in Hainan Province,which has certain theoretical and practical value.
