Experimental Study Of SNARC For Uyghur College Students

Numbers have spatial characteristics,SNARC effect is an important effect in the spatial representation of numbers.The Spatial-Numerical of Response Codes(SNARC)effect which is mainly refers to the subject has a certain tendency in the number response.A large number of studies have proved that the SNARC effect is universal.The SNARC effect can also be changed.Researchers found that of reading and writing habit,experimental tasks and learning will change the SNARC effect.Most of the scholars to explain the SNARC effect with "mental number line",but this theory is more applicable to the horizontal dimension,in recent years,some scholars have tried to "embodied cognition" from a new cognitive perspective to supplement the theoretical foundation of SNARC effects.Based on the above two viewpoints,this article will further discuss the factors that influence the SNARC effect.In this study,40 Uyghur College students were selected as subjects.The Go/No-go experimental paradigm was used to the size judgment of the number tasks.Study 1 discusses the Uyghur's SNARC effect on Arab figures and Uyghur language numbers in the horizontal dimension.Study 2 discusses the Uyghur's SNARC effect on Arabic numerals and Uyghur language numerals in the vertical dimension.Study 3 introduce the viewpoint of embodied cognition to explore whether the number of floor in the context can affect the SNARC effect on the vertical dimension.The result shows that :(1)In the horizontal direction,the response of the subjects to the Arabia decimal number on the left was faster than that on the right,the response of the Arabia large number to the right was faster than that on the left side,and subjects have a faster response to Arabic numerals than the Uyghur language numbers.(2)In the vertical dimension,there was no difference in the responses between the Arabic numerals and the Uyghur numerals,and the subjects responded to small numbers in Uyghur language faster than large numbers.(3)After using the floor number words,subjects responded faster to the low floor numbers appearing below than to the high floor numbers and responded faster to the high floor numbers appearing above than to the low floor numbers.To sum up,this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)On the horizontal dimension,Uyghur subjects showed the SNARC effect from left to right for Arabia numbers,and the SNARC effect of Uyghur language numbers from right to left.(2)On the vertical dimension,Uyghur subjects have no SNARC effect on both Arabia numbers and Uyghur language numbers.(3)After using the floor numbers,the Uyghur subjects showed a bottom-up SNARC effect on the vertical dimension.(4)Reading and writing habits are the main factors affecting the horizontal dimension SNARC effect;embodied cognition is an important factor affecting the vertical dimension SNARC effect...
