Exhibition interpreting, compared with other types of interpreting, has its own characteristics, which lead to distinctive interpreters' roles.Interpreters' roles have an influence on interpreters' performance.Their coping strategies should be based on the roles that they play. This thesis aims at,by case study, analyzing the exhibition interpreters' roles and proposing coping strategies accordingly.Based on the author's exhibition interpreting practice for 2019 Luxury Property Showcase Beijing, this thesis concludes that major interpreters' roles include a messenger,a sentence organizer,an information gatekeeper,a salesperson,an assistant and a conversation participant. In order to enhance performance, interpreters should adapt their strategies based on the roles that they play.Firstly,as messengers, interpreters should convey messages faithfully and completely when the source text is clear and concise.Secondly,as sentence organizers, interpreters should interpret original messages into the target language in an organized way when the source text is repetitive or illogical.Thirdly,as information gatekeepers, interpreters may not convey certain messages to ensure an efficient and smooth dialogue if the main message of the speaker is delivered.Fourthly,as salespersons, interpreters should help to promote products whenever possible.Fifthly,as assistants, interpreters should offer to help, and pay attention to the possibility that this role can easily turn into other roles.Last but not least, when interpreters are required to participate in the dialogue, being a conversation participant will not leave an unprofessional image. As conversation participants, interpreters should still ensure the smooth conversation between the two primary speakers.
