This report selects page 486 to 508 of the first volume of Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu,written by Yuan Tingdong,as the translation and research object.It puts emphasis on the translation of history and culture of streets to explore the translation techniques of historical documents.Records of Streets and Alleys in Chengdu is a historical document with characteristics of Chinese language and culture.The author adopts the Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance,using the three rules of Skopos theory in translation practice to achieve the communicative purpose of the translation.By analyzing all kinds of examples,the author explores the role of the three rules of Skopos theory and many translation techniques in the translation process.Under the guidance of skopos rule,omission,addition and conversion are applied to achieve the communicative purpose.Under the guidance of coherence rule,division,combination and inversion are used to make the translation smooth,understandable and consistent with the expression customs of target language readers.Under the guidance of fidelity rule,syntactic linearity and transliteration annotation are adopted to make the translation faithful to the source text and its author.This report aims to explore the translation techniques of informative text with Chinese culture-loaded words so as to achieve the communicative purpose of the translation,attract more foreigners to learn the history and culture of Chengdu and enhance its recognition as a world tourist destination.
