Study On Metaphor And Metonymy Of 'Jiao/Zu'

The phenomenon that the words of 'Jiao' and 'Zu' in Chinese are not always interchangeable appears widely.Based on the important theories of metaphor and metonymy in the cognitive linguistics,lexical level and cognitive perspective,the formation mechanism of 'Jiao' and 'Zu' on metaphor/ metonymy and cognitive characteristics is revealed to determine the linguistic phenomenon.This dissertation is divided into 5 chapters.And the outline of each chapter is summarized as follows.In the section of ' Introduction '(chapter 1),the research objects,progress,significance and methods are introduced.The advances are analyzed on the basis of the survey of linguistics,cognition of human body words and cognition of 'Jiao/Zu'.And the corresponding advantages are summarized.In chapter 2,the metaphor of 'Jiao/Zu' is classified and explained by metaphor theory,mapping theory and similarity(the basis for the formation of metaphor).And based on the aforementioned study,the source domain and target domain of metaphor are further classified and explained.The metonymy theory is introduced in chapter 3,and its usage and formation process are revealed by related methods.For each type of metonymy,the source domain and target domain are summarized and analyzed with examples.The metaphtonymy of 'Jiao' and 'Zu' is discussed in chapter 4.Based on the metaphtonymy theory preposed by Goossens and cases,the metaphtonymy is summarized and analyzed and their formation process is exhibited by charts and tables.The conclusion is drawn in chapter 5.The comparison and summary of metaphor and metonymy for 'Jiao' 'Zu' is conducted.Additionally,the drawbacks and perspective are put forward regarding the work.
