In verbal communication, for some reason, people will deliberately avoidsome of the words or topics, this is what we called taboo. Former literatures focusmore on the language forms of expression and the structure of the static model, whichdo not address the formation of taboo or understanding of the dynamic process of itscognitive mechanism, and do not delve deeper accordingly. Cognitive Linguisticsinitiates a new era for the study of taboo, and has an immense value to exploring andinterpreting the cognitive motivation of taboo. This paper is based on the review ofthe traditional researches of taboo, and the deficiency of their arguments, manipulating Cognitive Linguistic theories with various types of taboo in an attemptto analyze the profound motivations of the similarities and discrepancies acrosslanguages.
