Jigsaw Method is a teaching method guided by cooperative learning,the teaching subject in traditional class can be converted from the teacher into the students.The aim is to enhance the students' reading interest and thus build their confidence,to change students' opinions towards reading and thus reduce their weariness,to improve their reading habits and thus cultivate their ability of autonomous learning after class.The key to Jigsaw Method is the division and integration of academic materials as well as two discussions in group.This study seeks to combine the two keys with English reading teaching in a reasonable way,in order to activate English classes and promote the students' English learning competence.To confirm if Jigsaw Method makes a difference in English reading class in junior high school,the following questions are addressed:Question 1: Can students' attitude in English reading be changed after the application of Jigsaw Method?Question 2: Can students' reading achievement be improved? To what extent can students improve their reading achievement after the application of Jigsaw Method?After almost four months' pedagogical practice in No.4 Middle School in Jinzhou,80 students from two parallel classes in Grade 8 took part in this study.One of the parallel classes was randomly selected as the experiment class adopting Jigsaw Method,the other was selected as the control class adopting traditional teaching method.In addition,the experimental class and the control class were consistent in teaching content,teaching duration,and teaching tools.The data were collected from the questionnaire,tests and interview,which could be analyzed by SPSS 19.0.The conclusions are as follows: Jigsaw Method can efficiently correct students' attitude towards English reading,improve their achievement and it also be supported and adored by students.Last but not least,the suggestions and limitations of this research can play a vital role in directing other researchers.It's hoped that Jigsaw Method can be better applied to teaching English reading.
