Big And Small: Perceptual Simulation Of The Social Classification Of Rich And Poor

Traditional cognitive psychology regards the representation of abstract concepts as the processing of cognitive symbols and the cognitive process has nothing to do with human body experience.In the view of embodied cognition,the representation of abstract concepts is not a simple sign processing,but comes from specific perceptual experience,and the representation of abstract concepts activates the perceptual simulation of embodied experience.According to the abstractness and richness of the experimental materials,this paper discusses whether the social classification of rich and poor is related to the perceptual simulation of space size through four experiments.In Experiment 1,we use the high income and low-income class to represent the rich and the poor,and to explore the rich and the poor in the process of social classification is involved in space perception simulation,the results showed that: when professional name comes in large font in the middle of the screen,the subjects of high income occupation classification,faster,and vice versa when professional name in small font rendering in the middle of the screen,the subjects classification for the low-income classes faster.In order to eliminate the influence of social power in experiment 1 and Experiment 2 did we compare the social power of the high income,occupation and low income,and examine the perceptual space contact high-income and low-income occupational classification,the results showed that: when professional name comes in large font in the middle of the screen,the subjects of high income occupation classification,faster,and vice versa when professional name in small font rendering in the middle of the screen,the subjects classification for the low-income classes faster.Experiment 3 to rule out the abstract concept of power on the result of the experiment,we use the Chinese name of meaningless discusses the classification of the rich and the poor name is related to the size of the space perception simulation,the results showed that: when the person's name in large font in the middle of the screen,the subjects of the classification of the rich name faster,whereas when being in small font rendering people in the middle of the screen,the name of participants on the poor classification faster.Experiment 4 is to investigate characterization of abstract meanings of idioms can verify our guess is thatwe have adopted the Chinese idioms are discussed the classification of the description of the concept of rich and poor is related to the size of the space perception simulation,the results showed that: when the idiom comes in large font in the middle of the screen,the subjects of the classification of the rich meaning faster,whereas when the idiom comes in small print in the middle of the screen,the subjects the classification of the meaning of poverty more quickly.The above results show that the social classification process of the rich and poor groups is related to the perceptual simulation of space size.
