Correlational Study On English Listening Anxiety,English Listening Self-efficacy And English Listening Achievement

Listening is a crucial part in foreign language acquisition.Listening score almost accounts for 20 percent of the total scores in junior high school English exams.So improving listening ability is very important for both students and teachers.Lots of studies have shown that emotional factors involved in listening learning have a direct impact on listening achievement,among which the students? listening anxiety and listening self-efficacy are attracting increasing attention from researchers.This study aims to explore the situation of anxiety and self-efficacy in English listening of the junior three students and their correlation with the students? English listening achievement.188 junior three students from Lanzhou sixty-sixth junior high school were chosen as subjects in this study.The author used Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale(FLLAS),English Listening Self-Efficacy Scale(ELSES)and the final test of the last semester of the third year to study the students? English listening anxiety,English listening self-efficacy,English listening achievement and their correlation.The study found that:(1): Junior three students experience a relatively medium degree of anxiety and self-efficacy in English listening;(2)English listening anxiety is significantly and negatively correlated with English listening achievement;(3)Students? English listening self-efficacy is significantly and positively correlated with listening achievement;(4)English listening self-efficacy is significantly and negatively correlated with English listening anxiety.The results have some pedagogical implication for both English teachers and students.
