The development of network technology and social media has ushered in the era of Web 2.0 and promoted formation and development of participatory culture.Bullet screen translation,as a typical user-participatory culture,is popular among more and more young people.Taking the British preschool animated television series Peppa Pig as an example, this article studies the characteristics and problems of user-participatory bullet screen translation. It turns out that the translation of Peppa Pig mainly reflects four characteristics: instantaneity, informality, banter and buzzwords, which have attracted attention and participation of a wide audience while reflecting new translation norms. This new practice of translation allows participants to gain identity and sense of belonging, manifest their own cultural perspectives and values, and satisfy their social as well as emotional desire to interact with others. It has become a translation model that young people are now willing to accept. However, this new translation model still has some problems, such as instability of user participation, low performance of user participation, and the “participatory gap”caused by user discrepancy. In order to alleviate the negative impact of bullet screen translation,it is needed to establish an effective reward mechanism, improve the user-participatory culture environment, enhance participants' translation ability and new media literacy, and treat the bullet screen translation more inclusively.
