| The purpose of this paper is to chronicle the western early translation of Chinese classical novels from the Year of 1735 to 1949,and to describe the periodical features of the works.The research ideas and contents are as follows:(1)The original documents of the western translation of Chinese classical novels from 1735 to 1949 are collected in detail.(2)With an academic attitude of "checking facts" and "tracing the source and flow",clarifying the translation of western translation works,publishing historical facts,translator identity and other information in detail;(3)Take"chronicle" as the longitudinal main line and "chronicle" as the horizontal auxiliary line to improve the chronicle and work information.First of all,in chronological order,the western translation works are summarized according to the specific publication year,and the works are arranged according to the verified publication year.Second,catalog work can take an examination of detailed information,item contents include the name of the work,the translator and its identity,medium contained,transfer and issue related to the press,book reviews,illustrations,reprints,patrons,or sponsors,novel types,and the original edition of Chinese novels,and for some more important work of the translator introduction and review of all,in order to present more effective and accurate information;(4)From a macro perspective,the periodical features of the western translation works are taken as the basis for the historical stages of the chronicle;(5)The characteristics of the western transmission of Chinese classical novels contained in this historical period are discussed in order to present the spread and acceptance of Chinese classical novels in the western world,the cultural pedigree associated with them,and the Chinese and western literature and cultural views reflected in the perspective of classical novel research,highlighting the changes of ancient and modern times.This paper aims to present the historical track of the translation and dissemination of Chinese classical novels in western countries,which is beneficial to experts and scholars who study the western transmission of Chinese classical novels,and may promote the breeding of more academic growth points in this field. |
