A Report On Translation Of Excerpt From Oceanic Natural Gas Hydrate:Critical Factors For Commercialization

This paper is a translation practice report on the eighth chapter of the scientific English text Oceanic Natural Gas Hydrate:Critical Factors for Commercialization.According to relevant data,the total amount of NGH is about twice the total amount of proven traditional fossil fuels,which can be used by mankind for thousands of years.In China,only the long-term resource of NGH in the sea area is equal to the amount of oil and gas resources both in the sea and on the land.By researching and developing NGH,many countries may achieve energy self-sufficiency,and thus the existing world energy trade may be completely changed.Therefore,the translation of this material can provide some guidance for those engaged in this field.The whole paper is composed of four parts: task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.Chapter one is an introduction of text source,text features,research purpose and significance.Chapter two is process description,which involves pre-translation preparations,text analysis,translation theory introduction,comprehension and expression of source text,proofreading and revision of draft transaltion.Here,the translator selects Peter Newmark's text typology as the translation support.Chapter three serves as the core part of the translation practice.In this chapter,the author,based on some cases of translation,analyzes the employed translation strategies from the lexical,the syntactical and the textual level.At the end of the paper,reflections are made,aiming to further improve the quality of translation.
