This paper explores the similarities and differences between Chinese “ba” sentences and its corresponding English sentences' syntactic structure and semantic relations. It reveals the syntactic structure of each type of “ba” sentences and its English counterpart in the corpus, analyzes the semantic features of each type of “ba” sentences and its English counterpart, and constructs the semantic schema of the Chinese “ba” sentences and the English equivalent sentences. The introduction chapter of this paper mainly expounds the research background, purpose, research methods and ideas, and the characteristics of the English-Chinese parallel corpus used in this paper. The first chapter discusses the classification and distribution of the Chinese “ba” sentences. On the basis of predecessors' classification model we establish a new pattern classifying the “ba” sentences, and interpret the distribution of each category “ba” sentences in the corpus,at the same time,we use the language typology theory to explain the reason why English-Chinese translation works used more “ba” sentences than the Chinese original works. The second chapter analyzes the similarities and differences between the structures of Chinese “ba” and its English corresponding sentences, and analyzes and summarizes the syntactic structure of each English corresponding sentence of “ba”.It is found that the predicate complement structure of “ba” and other forms of “ba” “N1+?+N2+VP” generally correspond to the English explicit result causative sentence “N1+V+N2+RP” and the implicit result causative sentence “N1+V+N2”.The third chapter summarizes each category of “ba” sentences and their corresponding English sentences' event schema category, finally,we summarized five events schema of “ba” sentences, respectively is the “happening” schema, the “doing” schema, the “experiencing” schema, the “moving” schema and the “transferring” schema. And the largest proportion of about 56% of the total number of corpus are the “moving” schema. At the same time,we also use the event schema theory to explain the transition conditions between the “ba” sentences and the other syntactic structures. The main results of this paper are as follows: Two different types of typical texts and their translations are selected to establish a Chinese-English bi-directional target language and source language parallel corpus;Based on the exhaustive survey of the closed corpus, this paper adds to the existing classification models of Chinese “ba” sentences and their textual distribution, and provides a basis for the structure comparison between Chinese “ba” sentences and Their English counterparts. In this paper, the corresponding forms of Various structures of Chinese “ba” sentences in English are described in detail, and the corresponding patterns of Chinese “ba” sentences in English are constructed.Based on the semantic analysis of Chinese “ba” and English corresponding sentences, the event schemata of Chinese and English corresponding patterns are abstractly summarized. In the future research,we can also continue to collate and make statistics on the English causative sentences and their Chinese counterparts in the corpus, and conduct reverse comparison with the Chinese “ba” sentences and their English counterparts, which is also the direction that this study can continue to expand in the future.
