The“Same-translated Phenomenon”(e.g.“??”?“??”are same-translated into“experience”)in the word list of textbook often induces Chinese learners to misuse the same-translated words, which may not be similar in semantics and have different correspondence with the meanings of English words. The same-translated verbs(like the“??”and“??”,which are same-translated into“visit”)have the highest proportion in the textbooks.According to the corpus and questionnaire investigation of the English speakers in middle and high Chinese levels, different semantic types of same-translated verbs have different error rate. The same-translated verbs which have close semantic relation(e.g.“?”and“??”)and correspond to the same meanings of English words(e.g.“??”and“?(??)”)tend to be misused in a higher rate. The errors of same-translated verbs can be divided into three types:the misuse of meaning, the improper grammar, and the wrongly typed analogy.Besides, the misuse of the same-translated verbs have directivity:some same-translated words(A-B)always misuse A to replace B,which can be defined as one-way misuse(e.g.“??-?-sing”);some always misuse A to replace B and B to replace A,which can be defined as two-ways misuse(e.g.“??-??-feel”).Some of the one-way misuses have similar characteristics:monosyllabic verbs are easy to be misused as separable words(e.g.“?”is misused as“??”);Paratactic compound words are easy to be misused as synonymous monosyllabic verbs.Except for the effect of“same-translated phenomenon”,the uniqueness of the Chinese vocabulary system, the strategies of the learners and the teaching methods also contribute to the misuse of same-translated verbs. The improvement of the textbook word list should stress on the same-translated verbs that have far semantic relations(e.g.“?”and“??”are translated as“move”)and correspond to the different meanings of English words(e.g.“??”and“??”are translated as“feel”),because they are easier to be improved and more effective in results. The improvement of teaching should emphasize more on the“precautions”instead of the“post processing”and tries to lower the error rate in daily words teaching.
