A Survey On The Status Quo And Future Trend Of Composing And Using Interpreting Textbooks In China's Mainland

The requirements for professional interpreters are continuously becoming higher today,which in turn has led to the widening gap in the demand and supply of professional interpreters.Every process plays a crucial role in textbooks of interpreting from composing through publication to selling.This report aims to discover problems existing in interpreting textbooks,understand the market demand,provide data support for the upgrading of interpreting materials,and investigate the expectation for the future integration of technology into the textbooks to explore more possibilities for interpreting materials.This survey designs different questions from the perspectives of the composers and users of the interpreting textbooks to collect the views of both parties.As two major groups related to interpreting textbooks,users and composers can play an irreplaceable role in the development of interpreting textbooks.In this survey report,the users are divided into three parts: teaching administrators,teachers,and learners,together with composers(four groups in total),as we try to collect comprehensive data.In order to ensure the accuracy of the data,in addition to questionnaires,interviews were designed,and representatives from different groups were selected for interviews to further confirm and sublimate the results.This survey collects data from 260 subjects.People's views on interpreting textbooks vary.The author analyzes data from five different aspects(necessary information,functions of interpreting textbooks,composing/using process,and existing problems as well as future tendencies).Due to the different standpoints of composers and users,they consider the functions of interpreting textbooks differently.Also,different considerations of composers and users are given to the composing and using process.So accordingly,a connection between the various opinions towards those questions and the existing problems is set up.As for the future trend of interpreting textbooks,most people take a positive attitude while the developing trend(how to develop)has become the main issue.This survey collects data related to interpreting textbooks from multiple groups,provides data support for the current problems of interpreting textbooks and finds out related causes of these problems.Through analysis,the author establishes the correlation between different groups and provides data for solving the problems of interpreting textbooks,which is of great significance for improving the quality of interpreting textbooks and also shows the possibility for the development of interpreting textbooks in the future.
