A Report On Interpreting For Beford Petrochemical Company Limited

Since reform and opening up, with the development of China’s economy, foreign exchange continues to grow and the demand for interpreters from all aspects is also rising. This is a practice report of interpreting which describes the author being as an interpreter from June 1 to June 2 in 2014 for Beford Petrochemical Company Limited.This report contains four parts. The first part is the task description, which mainly introduces the background, details of the assignment, and the requirements of the client. The second part is about the interpretation process. The author highlights the importance of pre-interpreting preparation and post-interpreting items. The third part is the core of this report, which illustrates the problems in interpreting and carries on theoretical thinking based on cases. The last part is the enlightenment of this interpreting practice, which draws the following conclusions. Firstly, interpreters should accumulate different fields of background knowledge combining with certain tasks, in order to apply in practice skill and ease. Secondly, in interpreting process, pre-interpreting preparation and post-interpreting items are two important parts that can not be ignored. The author divides pre-interpreting preparation into long-term, short-term and temporary preparation, theses three stages are indispensable to practice. Post-interpretation items as summary of work plays a role in transition, which prepared for future interpreting practice. In addition, to be qualified interpreters, we also should continue learning interpreting theories and strategies and reasonably make use of them in practice. Excellent interpretation is a crystallization of wisdom and skill, only done this can we combine theory and practice. Besides, training good psychological quality and shaping perfect self-cultivation are the road to become outstanding interpreters in the future.
