As one of the four basic language skills,speaking skills is an important part in senior high school English teaching.However,it is still not satisfactory though we pay much more attention on the development of oral competence in senior high schools in recent years.In present situation,time on oral English teaching is very limited.Therefore,more and more scholars at home and abroad are devoted to studying learning strategies that can improve learners' oral competence.Among many learning strategies,metacognitive strategies are considered to be an important strategy that remarkably affects students' learning efficiency.Therefore,the present research aims to explore the effects of metacognitive strategy training on oral competence,trying to answer the following three questions:1.After the metacognitive strategy training,to what extent has senior high school students' awareness of applying metacognitive strategies in oral English learning improved ? 2.After the metacognitive strategy training,to what extent has senior high school students' oral accuracy improved? 3.After the training of metacognitive strategy,to what extent has senior high school students' oral fluency improved?In order to answer the three questions above,the author selected 91 first-year students from two classes of Anqing Shihua No.1 Senior High School as the subjects to do an 18-week experiment.Both questionnaire about the knowledge of metacognitive strategies and oral tests were conducted in the two classes followed by interviews.Then,the author analyzes the data with the help of SPSS 25.0 software and achieves the following conclusions: 1.Compared with the students in control class who have not received metacognitive strategy training,the students in experimental class who have had training experience have significantly improved their awareness of using the metacognitive strategy in oral learning,which has effectively promoted oral competence.2.After the metacognitive strategy training,students can plan,monitor and evaluate their own oral learning process,and their oral accuracy issignificantly improved.3.The application of metacognitive strategies in oral learning greatly improves students' oral fluency.Finally,the author summarizes the main findings and reflects some limitations of the present study.At the same time,the author gives some pedagogical implications based on the conclusions of the study and try to provide some useful suggestions for future researches.
