A Study On The Translation Strategies In English Version Of Big Breasts&Wide Hips From The Perspective Of Nord's Functional Translation Theory

With the continuous improvement of China's international status and influence,China has more and more close connections and exchanges with other countries around the world.At the same time,excellent domestic literary works have begun to go abroad.As the carrier of Chinese culture,Chinese literary works have a great significance in promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.The quality of translation of Chinese literary works has a direct impact on the popularity of original works and the fame of their writers abroad.So far,all the English translations of Mo Yan's works have been accomplished by Howard Gold blatt.Mo Yan and his works have made such great achievements and wide attention overseas,and Howard Gold blatt has made great contributions to it.As to translation studies of Big Breasts&Wide Hips,most scholars focus on the translator himself and the literary language level.This paper analyzes and studies the English translation strategies of Big Breasts&Wide Hips from the perspective of Nord's functional translation theory.This thesis makes a detailed analysis of the Howard Gold blatt's translation of Big Breasts&Wide Hips from the perspective of Nord's functional translation theory.It mainly analyses Howard Gold blatt's choice of translation strategies in the translation process so as to explore the applicability of this theory to literary translation as well as the reasons why Big Breasts&Wide Hips are widely praised overseas.At the same time,it can improve the quality of literary translation.According to the mode of Nord's functional translation theory,this paper makes an all-round analysis of the English version of Big Breasts&Wide Hips.Firstly,on the basis of Nord's Source Text Analysis Theory,this paper analyzes the text structure,the genre characteristics,the text function,external and internal factors and the translation process of Big Breasts&Wide Hips,so as to explore how the specific factors influence translator's translation strategies.Secondly,this paper uses Nord's Coherence and Function plus Loyalty principle to analyze the English translation examples of the novel,so as to explore the translator's choice of translation strategies in the specific translation processThe thesis found that:Firstly,in the specific translation process,the translator of Big Breasts&Wide Hips mainly adopts the translation strategy of more domestication than foreignization.Secondly,from Nord's functional translation theory,the domestication translation strategy is more close to the readers,so as to achieve the expected effect of the readers and the translation purpose of the translation favored by the market,to make Mo Yan's literary works popular in western countries.Thirdly,Nord's functional translation theory has a good explanatory power and applicability for literary translationThe purpose of this paper is to expand the application of Nord's functional translation theory to literary translation,to improve the quality of literary translation,and to expect the scholars interested in this field to do further research.
