William Morris(1834-1896)was an English artist,writer,and social activist who played a prominent role in the development of the culture of his era.William Morris never blindly imitated anyone or anything,either in his theories or in his practice.His hobbies often led to too hasty conclusions and to direct errors,his judgments were too stubborn and categorical,but he was never dogmatic.He,a poet and an artist,was insulted by the vulgar in their attempt to look luxurious cheap factory goods,avalanche flooded the market.Of course,Morris' s social ideas were utopian.This thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is introduction.The second chapter is condition of labor in capitalist society and how did capitalism affected on labor statement.The third chapter is perception of labor as non-drudgery and receiving pleasure out of labor.Chapter four is about civil war by old Hammond's story and how the conception of labor became attractive in William Morris' novel News from Nowhere.Chapter five shows William Morris' attachment of the new era,era of communism and democracy,where every human has a right to exist getting joy out of labor and has passionate to create,to work.And the last one is conclusion of the idea about making labor attractive. |
