Self-reference Effect Under The Framework Of Source Memory

The self-reference effect of memory refers to the phenomenon that when information is related to self-concept,individuals will process it quickly and the memory effect is better than other coding conditions.However,other studies have found that memory does not always have a self-referential effect--self-referential performance is no better or worse when the reference is to someone close to you.There is no significant self-reference effect between intimate other-reference and self-reference caused by cultural difference,familiarity,stimulus type and self-initiative.Episodic memory is the memory of events in specific time and space.It includes not only the content of the event itself,which is the main part of the memory,but also the background and details of the event,involving sensory perception characteristics,environmental information,time,space and place.The former is called item memory,that is,the memory of the event content;The latter is called source memory,which is the memory of the background of the event.Most of the previous studies on the self-reference effect are about item memory,and few studies have explored the effect of self-reference processing on other information memory besides item information.Of this study is to introduce the self-reference effect project position memory and source memory,discuss memory self-reference of words and the impact of source memory location of the project,and further study,when the memory contents and activities and personal reference,source location and program memory is enhanced,thus further reveal the mechanism of item memory and source memory processing.This research adopts the different reference tasks,to explore the self-reference effect of item memory and source memory,exploration under the condition of the reference words task,self and close others on item memory and source memory performance and in reference to task,with the ecological validity of self and close others change on item memory and source memory.Through the interaction of self-reference task with item memory and source memory,the relationship between item memory and source memory was better explored.In experiment 1,2(reference object: self-reference/other-reference)×3(reference result:with reference/without reference/unclear)×3(word: positive/negative/neutral)was adopted as the mixed experimental design of three factors,in which word reference was the inter-subjectvariable.The dependent variables were the subjects' rerecognition accuracy and response time of the item memory of adjectives and the rerecognition accuracy and response time of the positional source memory.Experiment 2 adopts 2(reference object: self-reference/other-reference)×3(reference result: with reference/without reference/unclear)two-factor mixed experimental design,in which the reference object is the inter-subject variable.The dependent variables are the rerecognition accuracy and response time of the subjects' item memory of the picture and the rerecognition accuracy and response time of the position source memory.According to the results of the two experimental studies,the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)when self-reference and intimate others refer to each other,neither item memory nor source memory has self-reference effect on memory;(2)the scores of item memory and location source referenced by words are lower than those of item memory and location source when the memory content is compared with individual activities;(3)when the memory content is compared with personal activities,the memory performance of self-reference is worse than that of intimate others;(4)compared with negative words,positive words are easier to be processed and individuals pay more attention to the positive factors in personality,whether it is self-reference or others' reference with close relationship.Above results show that the self-reference effect is close relationship between self and self material and the related materials of different processing methods are concerned,when there is self-reference and intimate others experiment reference both in item memory and source memory when there will not be a memory of self-reference effect can appear even others anchoring effect;Item memory and source memory also have different processing methods.Source memory is related to recall,which is the conscious control of processing.
