The material selected for this mock English-Chinese consecutive interpretation practical report is about the Michigan board of education meeting.Ten members from the state board of education attended the meeting and made a discussion.The speech delivered by the members of the state board of education were in the form of improvisation.The main purpose was to elect a new state superintendent in order to make Michigan to be one of the top ten states in education field in America within a decade.This practical report mainly analyzes English-Chinese consecutive interpreting strategies for impromptu speeches.After listening to the live recording,the interpreter further analyzed that the weak relevance was found in the source language on account of the speeches were delivered in the form of impromptu.They are mainly reflect in the self-repair of the speaker of the source language;the redundancy of the source language information and the fuzzy expression of the source language information.The above issues are also the difficulties which affect the interpreter's performance.According to the relevance theory put forward by Sperber and Wilson,the strategies used by the interpreter in the process of English-Chinese consecutive interpretation mainly include omission interpretation,interpretive interpretation and sentence pattern reconstruction.By analyzing the mock English-Chinese consecutive interpretation,the interpreter summed up the corresponding strategies for the weak relevance of the source language,so as to develop self experience in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation skills and improve the overall quality of interpretation in the future,and to provide reference for the interpreters who are facing the same problems.
