| Naga is not native to Cambodia.It originated from India.It is referring to the cobra that own the supernatural power.Since the Naga culture of India was introduced into Cambodia,it has begun to integrate and superimpose with the local culture of Cambodia,and finally forms the Naga Belief of Cambodia which has its own particular characteristics.This paper mainly adopts the literature research method,field survey method,comparative research method.Firstly,Find out the origin of the Naga Belief in Cambodia through the literature research method,and analyze the changes of the Naga Belief in the historical process of Cambodia.Secondly,Analyze the rules of integration and superimposition through the comparative research method.Meanwhile,analyze the influence of the Naga Belief in Cambodian society through the field survey method.Throughout the evolution of the Naga Belief in Cambodia,the Naga Belief has undergone complex changes throughout the Cambodia’s history.From the 1st century to the middle of the 14 th century,Brahmanism has been the dominant religion in Cambodia.The Naga Belief has been highly respected in a long period,but around some time of the 13 th century,the Naga Belief has been weakened by individual rulers.However,From the end of the 13 th century to the beginning of the 14 th century,the Naga Belief has been highly respected in the Theravada Buddhism.The Theravada Buddhism has been the dominant religion in Cambodia since the middle of the 14 th century,the Naga Belief mainly has been placed in a subordinate position in the Theravada Buddhism,and it does not disappear.However,the Naga Belief has also been revered in the Theravada Buddhism.The Naga Belief of Cambodia is mainly integrated and supplemented by the superimpose during its localization.The integration of Indian Naga culture with Cambodian totem worship,nature worship,reproductive worship,god worship,"Cultural And Discultural" concept and other local beliefs have become a major part of Cambodia’s Naga Belief.However,part of the Indian Naga culture is superimposed on the local culture of Cambodia,and some Nagas of the Indian Naga culture are playing a supporting role in the myths and legends or used as tools,and finally they become part of the Cambodia’s Naga Belief.With the development of society,the Naga Belief in Cambodia has more and more presented its local characteristics.The Naga Belief has gradually become a cultural symbol of the Khmer nation,affecting the society of Cambodia. |
