Based on the Chinese and English versions of The Bridge of Heaven, the author attempts to analyze the adaptation of folklore translation from the perspective of the adaptation theory. The Bridge of Heaven is a representative work of S.I.Hsiung,a famous Chinese writer in the twentieth century. The Bridge of Heaven, which is created during the period of China's Anti-Japanese War,is a social satire novel. The novel unfolds the life experience of the Li family, especially Ta Tung. The writer and translator S.I.Hsiung presents to the readers a series of significant historical events in the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China.S.I.Hsiung also describes the social changes in this period, which is of importance in introducing the Chinese society and traditional Chinese culture to younger generations in China and readers of other countries. This study finds that adaptation of folklore translation happens in three aspects, namely, adaptation to physical world, social world and mental world.Through dynamic adaptation, information about Chinese folklore are introduced. To view folklore translation from the perspective of the adaptation theory,we may see a way to spread Chinese culture to the world.
