Language learners always choose a second language for a specific motivation.Different learning motivations often result in different learning results.Learning motivation plays an important role in learning a second language and naturally arouses researchers' attention.This paper adopts a three-level motivational framework from Dornyei,and classifies and analyzes the Chinese learning motivations of 138 Chinese learners at Hanoi Metropolitan University through questionnaires,interviews,and statistical analysis from the three levels of language,learners,and learning situations.The learning motivation of Hanoi Metropolitan University students is divided into three categories: language level motivation,learner level motivation,and learning situation level motivation.Ranked by intensity,college students' language level motivation was the strongest(53.21%),followed by learner level motivation(41.59%),and finally learning context level motivation(38.26%).This article believes that learning motivation mainly has the role of starting,guiding and maintaining.The initiating role is to promote people's activities;the guiding role is to guide people's behavior even if they are under the motive of the motivation;the maintenance role is to motivate and adjust the activities after the activities occur.Factors that affect Chinese language learning motivation of Hanoi Metropolitan college students include: Chinese language factors,individual differences,and teaching factors.Individual differences include:student performance,age,family factors;Teaching factors include: teachers,pedagogy,and teaching materials.To stimulate students' learning motivation from the language level,Hanoi Metropolitan University students should realize the importance of language communication and constantly improve themselves.Students use a variety of learning forms to actively develop their Chinese communication skills.From the learner level,we can better stimulate the learning motivation of Vietnamese Chinese learners.Students strengthen the study of Chinese culture,actively participate in Chinese and Chinese cultural activities,and communicate more with Chinese friends.To stimulate learning motivation from the learning situation level,the school can provide more modern teaching equipment.Teachers should use textbooks that conform to the Vietnamese student level,improve teaching methods,and provide timely feedback to students' learning results to make students aware of their achievements so as to satisfy students' self-confidence and sense of accomplishment in learning Chinese.
