Documentary is a movie art.It is based on“true stories”and“documentary techniques”,supplemented by artistic narrative techniques, conveys the central idea and value concept of the story and makes it resonate with the audience and cause reflection. As one of the important cultural media in international communication, the documentary also undertakes many functions such as recording society, interpreting history and culture, and international exchanges.Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival,as the largest documentary film festival in Asia, its“Golden Kapok Awards” is not only a feast of images, but also an important channel for the export of China's excellent video works and a benchmark for documentary industry development.“The Best global impact China Documentary”,as the most representative sub-award in the“Golden Kapok Awards”,aims at excavate excellent domestic documentary films, promotes the overseas prosperity of documentary video works of“China Story”,demonstrates the cultural appeal and influence of the rise of the great nations, and allows overseas audiences to understand a more authentic China. This article is titled“Narrative Research on The Award-Winning Works of Best global impact China Documentary”,using text analysis and interview methods,on the basis of observing and organizing a total of 16 “ Best global impact China Documentary”,works from 2014 to 2019,using its two main reasons for evaluation as clues and the two chapters to describe the narrative content(type theme, character selection, narrative value)and narrative skills(narrative structure, narrative perspective, narrative rhythm)to analyze the unique narrative art behind it.The innovation of this article lies in the test research method as the main research method, supplemented by the interview method to provide a more targeted narrative strategy.Through research,it is found that the international characteristics of the 16award-winning films in terms of narrative content are: the combination of Chinese stories and global issues in the subject theme;the micro-narrative in the selection of characters, and the“Greater China”from the perspective of small people in ordinary stories;the value of narrative focuses on the reshaping of China's overseas image and the “implicit” communication of ideology. In addition, the common characteristics of narrative skills are: the use of structural suspense, which triggers the emotional resonance of overseas audiences;the combined use of narrative perspectives to reveal multiple insights into Chinese society;the compact narrative rhythm achieves relaxation and enhances the sensory stimulation of overseas audiences.Although these award-winning films have been recognized in the international market, there are still certain deficiencies, mainly manifested in: the narrative text is too traditional, the commentary thinking is solidified;the emotional resonance is too prominent, and the narrative logic is ignored;the mining of character stories is not deep enough, and the records are superficial;excessive sensation, lack of natural expression. In recent years,China's documentary video has made some progress in narrative, but there is still level of attainment to truly achieve the standard of “ China stories, international expression”.We also need to do the following: combine Chinese local stories with international thinking;“recessively”convey ideology and common values of human beings;let foreigners act as narrators and enhance the audience's sense of substitution;learn to find a story layout and strengthen the spatial narrative ability;adhere to storytelling to make the plot have drama tension and logic;learn movie narrative techniques to let documentaries develop a “film sense”.
