A Study Of Modal Particles In Guangshan Dialect Of Henan Province

Guangshan County is located in the southeast of Henan Province,which is the junction of Hubei,Henan and Anhui provinces.Therefore,it also presents transitional characteristics in dialect division.It is undoubtedly of great significance to study Guangshan dialect.Modal particles are a kind of words that are frequently used in daily life,and their grammatical meaning is relatively empty and their usage is relatively complex,which can be said to be the most elusive of all function words.Whether it is the study of modal particles in Putonghua or dialect,it has not been paid enough attention and the existing research results are relatively insufficient.This paper takes the modal particles in Guangshan dialect as the research object,based on a large number of collected data,and uses the methods of introspection and field investigation,description and explanation,comparison and induction to study the modal particles in Guangshan dialect.According to Li Xiaofan's(1998)classification of Suzhou dialect,all modal particles in Guangshan dialect are also divided into three categories: event modal particles(???);modality particles(???????????????????);query modal particles(???????????).By describing and explaining the usage of these three types of modal particles,we have a preliminary understanding of the modal particle system of Guangshan dialect.On this basis,according to the research results of Qi Huyang(2002)on the function of modal particles,the above three types of modal particles are also described in terms of semantic function,sentence completion function and textual function.To a certain extent,this makes the description of modal particles in Guangshan dialect more three-dimensional.Guangshan dialect has its own characteristics.This paper selects Putonghua as the comparative object,and compares some modal particles in Guangshan dialect with the corresponding modal particles in Putonghua,thus highlighting the characteristics of modal particles in Guangshan dialect,such as abundant quantity and meticulousmeaning expression.Through the study of modal particles in Guangshan dialect,this paper hopes to reveal the usage and characteristics of modal particles in Guangshan dialect on the one hand,and also hopes to provide some reference value for other dialect research and common language research on the other hand.
