A Study Of Wang Niansun And Wang Yinzhi's Collation About Shuowenjiezi

Gaoyou Erwang were well-known textual research scholars during the Qianlong and Jiaqing period,which proficient in Chinese philology,phonology,exegesis and collation.Learning is passed on from father to son,and with their outstanding"Down-to-earth Learning"achievements,they became an insurmountable peak in the academic history of the Qing Dynasty.Historically,the research focus of Gaoyou Erwang has focused on their achievements in exegetics,collation,and phonology,but they have not paid enough attention to their achievements in philology,especially the achievements in Shuo Wen Xue(The Academy of ShuoWenJieZi??????).In view of this,it is necessary to carry out a systematic study of Gaoyou Erwang's Shuo Wen Xue.Due to the large amount of materials in the study of ShuoWenJieZi by Gaoyou Erwang,in the early stage of a comprehensive and in-depth research of the Shuo Wen Xue,to selecting his collation about ShuoWenJieZi as the entry point for the study was a matter of key.This article contains a total of four chapters and appendices.The first chapter is about the situation of the study of ShuoWenJieZi by Gaoyou Erwang.It mainly introduces the basic situation of Erwang's existing three remaining manuscripts about Shuo Wen Xue,including WangShiDuShuoWenJi,ShuoWenJieZiJiaoKanJiCanGao and ShuoWenDuanZhuQianJi;and ShuoWenJiaoBen(a ShuoWenJieZi which collated by them).And analyzing the relationships between the four books,and the relationships between ShuoWenJiaoBen and GaoYouWangShiSiZhong(Another four books writted by Gaoyou Erwang).The second chapter is about the details of Gaoyou Erwang's collation about ShuoWenJiaoBen.Erwang's collation of ShuoWenJiaoBen is consisted by four aspects,including correcting the Zi Tou,correcting the commentary,correcting the pronunciation,and changing the position of entry.He corrected 56 Zheng Wen Zi Tou(A word writted in front of the commentary)and 16 Chong Wen Zi Tou(A word writted after the comments),including 9 Gu Wen(A kind of font)Zi Tou,5 Zhou Wen(A kind of font)Zi Tou,and 2 Huo Ti(Another form of a word)Zi Tou.Correcting the commentary including correcting the words errors,supplement missing words,deleting added words,and changing the position of two words.They writted more than 2,000 entry.Correcting the pronunciation of 7 entries.31 Zi Tou were added,33 Zi Tou were deleted,and the positions of 14 Zi Tou were changed.While analysing the collation content of ShuoWenJieZi by Gaoyou Erwang,it being discussed of the gains and losses of Erwang's collation of ShuoWenJieZi.The third chapter is about the methods and characteristics of the collation of ShuoWenJieZi by Erwang.There are eleven types of collation methods,including comparing different version,finding evidence in ShuoWenJieZi itself,finding evidence in other books besides ShuoWenJieZi,separating the pronunciation between several words,looking for ancient form of a word,understanding the meaning of a word,observing the rhyme,finding geography errors,distinguishing the difference of two matters,observing the collocation of words,examining language facts.The most significant feature of Erwang's collation of ShuoWenJieZi is that it is widely cited in various books,resolved meaning relationship between different words by sound,collated ShuoWenJieZi by analyzed different fonts,explored the vocabulary system during collating.The fourth chapter is about the value of the Erwang's collation of ShuoWenJieZi.This chapter discusses the value of researching on Shuo Wen Xue and researching on Gaoyou Erwang.The appendix is WangShiDuShuoWenJi and ShuoWenJieZiJiaoKanJiCanGao compiled by the author for the first time.
