China has signed agreements with CEEC under “The Belt and Road” Initiative, among which cooperation on Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH)has won great support from these countries, enlarging the translation market to a great extent. In this report for translation practice, the author classifies cultural expressions in Aesthetics in the Creation of Folk Arts and Crafts included by the Second China-CEEC Cultural Heritage Forum into six categories, namely terms of traditional Chinese handcrafts,four-character idioms,Chinese slangs, proverbs and poems, homophonic words, literary quotations and legends,as well as religious and philosophical expressions, and makes a thorough analysis on their translation.Referring to Typology proposed by Katharina Reiss, the author finds that explicitation is widely used through case studies. Most terms of traditional Chinese handcrafts are content-focused;thus,complete and accurate transmission of information should be given priority, during which transliteration, addition, and shift are applied to clarify implied cultural meanings and logical connections including producing methods and names of handcrafts.Four-character idioms, slangs, and poems are more likely to be expressive, which calls for aesthetic effect.Meanwhile,as these expressions are abstract and implicit, addition, free translation, shift, and restructuring are often adopted to make them more explicit. When it comes to literary quotations and legends, background information needs to be added to make the story sensible and the moral of works more understandable.Annotation is important for translating homophonic words. If there is little influence when deleting religious and philosophical expressions in sentences, omission is a good choice,or explanation is indispensable to make the information clearer. To sum up,when dealing with ICH-related texts, translators should first judge according to the context whether cultural expressions are worth translating or not, then they should clarify valuable ones through addition, transliteration, free translation, shift, restructuring, etc.for a more explicit and readable target text, thus promoting Chinese culture to the maximum.
