As an imported art from the western society over one hundred years ago,Chinese Huaju(Chinese modern theatrical art)has gradually managed its own way of “nationalization".And it constantly arouse interests among most of contemporary theatrical researchers in China for years.One of the most remarkable representatives of Huaju and the best symbol of sinicization of this art form is Beijing People's Art Theater.Therefore,the study of performance produced by the Beijing People's Art Theater would reveal the academic evolution of nationalization”.However,researchers in the past time always trap their antenna merely on directing,acting or literary stuff,whereas researches on the stage design were left blank.This article would provide a new perspective from stage design and look back to the complete evolution of nationalization” in Beijing People's Art Theater from the very early time to present.For constituting a summarization,the article will sort out the details of development process of "nationalization"(or sinicization)which would definitely be valuable experience on such issue.The research ranged from the founding period to contemporary time of Beijing People's Art Theater,and will analyze several important theatrical productions in a chronological way,as milestones in this evolution.By organizing and researching on archives,including manuscripts,performance videos,rehearsal records and interviews on creative members,the article finally refined the conclusion of characteristics of this “nationalization".To the end of this study,the author found that the "nationalization" in stage design of Beijing People's Art Theater was aesthetically influenced by its artistic philosophy in directing and acting and by its literary style.This philosophy was first advocated by the most influential director Jiao Juyin who started a new school of performing which is tightly linked to Chinese traditional theatre.His exploration of stage art reached the peak before the Cultural Revolution,then went to diversified evolution after that.
