Research On The Image Construction Of China In The BBC China Documentary

As one of the world's most famous documentary producers,the BBC has always paid attention to the development of China,and the documentary about China has become an important part of the BBC documentary.It has taken more than 20 documentaries from 2006 to 2016,covering all aspects of China's economy,politics,society and history and culture,and has an important guiding role for other countries to understand China.Based on this,this paper makes a careful reading and analysis of documentary texts,and USES the method of symbolic analysis and critical discourse analysis,which combines the overall control with case analysis,and explores the subject selection,narrative features,discourse analysis and other aspects.The first part mainly summarizes the BBC documentary and its Chinese documentaries,including the time distribution,quantitative analysis and the collection of subject classification.Through the analysis,it is found that the BBC's attention to China is related to China's development situation and diplomatic relations between the two countries,and the interest in China continues to rise,and the heat is not decreasing.The second part mainly analyzes the specific Chinese image presented in these documentaries,including the four dimensions of politics,economy,society and culture,and further subdivides into different aspects to present China's image in each dimension.The third part mainly analyzes BBC's way of building the image in China,including three aspects of theme setting,narrative approach and symbol selection.The fourth part analyzes the discourse patterns and strategies adopted by documentaries in the construction of China's image from the perspective of discourse analysis,and connects them with the social context.The fifth part is through rational view of BBC documentary,thus finding its own inadequacies and the problems that exist in China's documentary dissemination of national image,while providing some reference for building and disseminating the national image of our country.The research shows that the BBC series of Chinese documentaries,to some extent,reflects the problems that exist in China's economic and social development,but there are also some areas of exaggeration and bias,which is both positive and critical of the rise and development of China.We should take an objective and rational view of the Chinese image in the construction of the BBC documentary,while using the strategy of internationalizing the narrative strategy,adopting the means of cooperating with foreign bodies to expand the international market and improve the credibility of the media,so as to obtain a better dissemination of the national documentary in the international dissemination,so as to enhance our national image.
