Cloze,as a necessary test for College Entrance Examination,can objectively reflect students' comprehensive language ability.With the reform of new curriculum in senior high school,cloze test is becoming more and more flexible and difficult.The author has found many problems in cloze class during the three-year teaching practice,for example,teacher's full lecture in class ignores students' subjective initiative and limits students' thinking.Besides,teachers only pay attention to the explanation of the correct answers,ignoring students' problem-solving and thinking process.Moreover,the lack of learning strategies has greatly reduced students' learning effect.In view of the above problems in cloze teaching,this paper introduces PAD Class into cloze teaching in senior high school to explore the effect of it in cloze teaching.The name of PAD is the abbreviations of three parts: presentation,assimilation and discussion.This paper is going to explore the following three questions.1.How the PAD Class teaching mode affect high school students' cloze learning strategies(metacognitive strategy,emotional strategy and cognitive strategy)?2.How the PAD Class affect the cloze scores of high school students?3.What are the teachers' and students' opinions on the application of the teaching mode of PAD Class in cloze teaching?Lasting for one semester,this research takes 140 students in Ruyang Experimental Senior High School as subjects.To make sure the two classes are in similar level in cloze,the author pretests them before the experiment,as a result,Class 3 is chosen to the experimental class,while Class 4 is chosen to be the control class.In the process of the experiment,the author explores the above three questions through questionnaire,interview and the comparison of pretest and post-test.The SPASS 22.0 is used to analyse the data of the experiment and to testify the research questions.Through the analysis of questionnaire,the author finds that the PAD Class can promote students' emotional and cognitive learning strategies in cloze,but it has little influence on themetacognitive learning strategies.Through the analysis of interview,the author finds that both teachers and students hold a positive attitude towards the PAD Class and have a strong will to continue to adopt this teaching mode in the future.Besides,through the analysis of the scores of pretest and post-test in experimental and control class,the author finds that not only can the PAD Class improve students' English cloze scores but also reduce the degree of polarization between students.The research shows that compared with the traditional teaching mode,the PAD Class is more conducive to improving students' cloze scores and learning strategies.
