A Report On E-C Translation Of Historical Research Papers

This translation practice report is based on the E-C translation of the book The Revolution in Ireland1897-1923,especially chapter nine “The Working Class Movement and the Irish Revolution,1896-1923”,and chapter ten“Sinn Fein,Agrarian Radicalism and the War of Independence,1919-1921”.This report consists of five parts.The first part mainly introduces the background of the material selection.The second part is the description of the translation task,including the analysis of the characteristics of the original and the specific requirements of the entrusting party.The third part is a detailed description of the translation process,covering the search for background knowledge,selection of translation tools,reading and analysis of parallel texts,development of translation plan,completion of glossary of items and introduction of translation quality assessment models.The description of the post-translation work is mainly about the evaluation of the translation,including self-evaluation,peer evaluation and feedback from the entrusting party.The fourth part is the case analysis.This part mainly describes the process of how the translator dealt with the difficulties at lexical level,syntactic level and the cohesion and coherence at textual level under the guidance of the translation quality assessment model.The fifth part is a conclusion which summarizes the translation problems often encountered in the translation of historical academic papers and their solutions,and the role that the translation quality assessment model played in the process of E-C translation.The analysis reveals that historical academic papers involve a large number of historical facts.In addition to accurate and fluent translation,the historical facts,figures,and political parties involved in the papers need to be studied for better translation.In solving the above-mentioned translation problems,the translation quality assessment model is conducive in ensuring the equivalence at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels between the original and the translation.
