This thesis adopts Ian Newton's mock conference as the case for analysis.When the writer was interpreting,he uses overwhelming self-repair that had a bad influence on audiences' listening experience.After referring to many materials,the thesis gives the conception of self-repair.Self-repair is classified it into three categories according to the materials: Error self-repair,Adequate self-repair and Intangible self-repair which includes respectively many sub-categories listed as below.The sub-categories includes word-error,sentence-error,different information,Inadequate-word,parenthesis,filled pauses and repetition.Error self-repair appears when there are errors.Adequate self-repair appears when there are inadequate words and expressions.Special self-repair includes filled pause and repetition.In chapter two,8 examples are chosen from the cases for analysis.And on the basis of all these example analyzed,6 reasons for Self-repair are come up with including difficulties in understanding proper nouns and datas,inappropriate and ill-structured notes.Additionally,a slip of tongue is also part of the reason.Many strategies are put forward on the basis of the reasons.First,an appropriate preparation before interpretation is crucial.Second,It's vital for an interpreter to deal with data from speakers.Third,Notes should be well-planed and clear.Fourth,A professional interpreter should better express information in interpretation.A good analysis of self-repair behavior can help those student interpreters and give experience for those who want to give decent interpretation service.
