Teacher talk in the second language class has the duality which is the teaching tool and simultaneously the teaching content,playing a key role in improving the quality of teaching and the language proficiency of second language learners.At present,the study scope and depth for teacher talk have been extended in the academic circle,whereas the study for the historic development of teacher talk remains to be added.Teacher talk ability is a process of dynamic development.The discourse system of novice teachers has not been mature which has a huge gap with proficient teachers.Therefore it is necessary to observe and analyse the characteristics of teacher talk's historic development in a periodThe author is the observer and meantime the observed in this article,observing the teacher talk in advanced Chinese class of Confucius Institute from a spectator's perspective.The study adopts quantitative and qualitative research method to summarize the historic development and the characteristics of changes of teacher talk in advanced Chinese class,supplemented by the teachers' interview and analyses the reasons for these changesThe paper proceeds the statistical data and the analysis from three aspects which are teacher's media language,teacher's volume of discourse and teacher's questions The result of study shows that in advanced Chinese class,the volume of teacher's media language appears a downward trend and the ability for using target language to explain target language has been improved.In the terms of teacher's volume of discourse,the volume of teacher's talk also appears a downward trend but not obvious and teachers have the consciousness to reduce their volume of discourse.The amount of teacher's questions is on the decrease,but the proportion of referential questions in on the increaseIn the end,the author proceeds the analysis and introspection of the development and changes of teacher talk and then finds out the similarities among the teachers who are involved in the study,hoping to provide some enforceable suggestions to the overseas novice teachers in the future.
