A sound note-taking system can improve the quality,efficiency,and fluency of consecutive interpretation.However,ineffective notes will lead to poor performance as they may interfere with the interpretation itself.This thesis is a case study on the mock conference on "Refugees and the Importance of Education" to analyze the impact of insufficient note-taking skills and linguistic issues on English to Chinese consecutive interpretation,and to discuss possible improvements.First,based on the review of related literature,the author summarized what is the aim of note-taking and the characteristics of efficient notes.Then,after an accurate analysis of the notes taken by the interpreter during the mock conference,it was found that the note-taking system presented five major issues,namely improper SVO structure,missing links,redundancy,inaccuracy of numbers and omissions.Finally,the author proposed possible measures to improve the note-taking system.First,it is necessary to strengthen the pre-interpreting session preparation,improve the interpreter's multitasking ability,reduce the number of notes,listen and analyze more to anticipate what the speaker is about to say,and practice retelling without notes.Second,it is necessary to increase the number of symbols,improve speech SVO structure,and use clearer handwriting.Since inefficient note-taking is a common issue among interpreting students,it is hoped that this paper can help students develop more targeted measures to improve their notes.
