Consecutive interpreting is in great demand both in China and in foreign countries.Note-taking is an indispensable tool for an interpreter in consecutive interpreting, through which the accuracy, rigor, and instantaneity of interpreting can be achieved.Undoubtedly,it is essential to take notes in consecutive interpreting,so it is not difficult to imagine how much the interpreter relies on notes. However, taking notes correctly and effectively is not an easy thing. With the aim to explore the issue, this thesis seeks to analyze several clear examples of note-taking skills with the case study of the "Peak Forum on Cooperation and Development of Plastic Industry between China and India"and four principles of note-taking.Research procedures of this thesis include data collection and data analysis.During the process of data collection,a test is done on 11 postgraduates majoring in interpreting to examine how student interpreters have observed(or violated)the principles and good practices suggested by scholars in interpreting studies. The principles are:to follow the basic Subject Verb Object rule;to leave a margin on the left and note the links, opinions, structural elements and dates on it;to reflect on the different levels of importance(values)that the speaker has given to the elements of a speech in our notes;and to use symbols correctly. It is found that participants' notes are not strictly in line with the SVO,mostly ignoring the Verb. Some participants do not take down links and other important information in the margin, making the notes illogical and misleading. All the participants use symbols, but not all of them do it in a correct manner. With the expectation to help student interpreters, this thesis puts forward solutions in terms of the structure and the content.
