Exploration Of Decorative Style Of Chen Hongshou's "Shui Hu Ye Zi" And The Enlightenment To My Practice Creation

“Shui Hu Ye Zi”(Water Margin Card)is Chen Hongshou's well-known artwork which based on the novel “Water Margin” creating through artistic processing.In the late Ming and early qing dynasties,under the background of “banning the spread of Water Margin”,Chen Hongshou was frustrated in his political life.The contrast between his ideal career and reality gradually made him disappointed and dissatisfied with the late Ming dynasty.So he created “Shui Hu Ye Zi”,which has been handed down to the present.By using “Shui Hu Ye Zi”,he expressed the loyalty,courage,benevolence,and righteousness of the traditional intellectuals and their determination to fight for the country until death.The image of Water Margin heroes created by Chen reached an unprecedented artistic level,which changed the declining trend of meticulous figure painting in the late Ming dynasty and started a new era.“Shui Hu Ye Zi” adhered to the popular aesthetic,created flat composition,exaggerated deformation of the character image,line tension,and interesting decorative pattern.Since the beginning of creation,it has been widely spread and exerted a profound influence on the Ming and Qing dynasties figure painting and contemporary figure painting.“Shui Hu Ye Zi” also infected the public with its unique charm,and numerous artists have been influenced by it.Studies on “Shui Hu Ye Zi” have common features,mainly focusing on the image characteristics,aesthetic views,and other perspectives,while the exploration of decorative style is relatively rare.Therefore,the research on the decorative style characteristics of the leaves of water margin is of great significance.From the perspective of guiding practical creation,this paper explores the application of decorative style characteristics of “Shui Hu Ye Zi” in practical creation.Through the analysis of the expression technique,the influence and the inspiration to the author's works are summarized,which is to inherit the classics,innovate the picture language,seek inspiration and breakthrough for the creation of contemporary meticulous figure painting.
