This report is based on Women and Personal Property in the Victorian Novel written by Dr.Deborah Wynne from University of Chester.The author translated Chapter Three of the book,which mainly tries to dissect the inner thoughts of George Eliot on the social status of women and their personal property by analyzing the plots and characters in the novels written by George Eliot,meanwhile reflecting the social legal environment of that time.It mainly has connection with three of the most well-known masterpieces of George Eliot: The Mill on the Floss,Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.Since the book is to explore legal issues based on literary works,it is quite novel in its entry points with the beauty of literary and the rigor of law.In the book,Dr.Deborah Wynne quoted a large number of sentences from the novels,with beautiful words but lengthy sentences.At the same time,the texts also involved a large number of characters and plots with characteristic of the Victorian era,which have certain references for the research of contemporary scholars.There are a lot of legal terms related to Victorian property rights and marriage law in the book.In the process of translation and research,the author determined the translation of legal terms in accordance with the researches and analysis on the legal terms,different legal systems and contexts of the texts.This report aims to study how to determine the text style,verify the background knowledge of the subject,especially how to adopt appropriate translation methods when proceed with the translation of such interdisciplinary texts,so as to accumulate translation experience through this research and provide references for the future translation practice.
