The author of this report has been intensely interested in the translation of English for special-purpose texts,and has followed the supervisor to conduct translation practice in the field of medicine in the postgraduate stage.Western countries relatively early started the development of clinical sports medicine which are worthy of those who were late to learn from.Therefore,the report takes the first five chapters of Peter Brukner and Karim Khan's Clinical Sports Medicine as the source text.This book is a world-leading work on sports and exercise medicine,aiming to provide services and help for everyone who wants to exercise and stay healthy.The translation practice is based on the communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark.Communicative translation theory focuses essentially upon the comprehension and response of the receptors.The book Clinical Sports Medicine is targeted at introducing sports knowledge and guiding people how to participate in sports medicine practice.Its readership mainly consists of professionals in sports medicine and sports enthusiasts.Readers' response occupies the most important position in the process of translation.Therefore,this report adopts communicative translation as the guiding theory.The report consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction of the translation project,including the information about the source text,the authors and the significance and purpose of the report.The second part is the description of the translation process which is arranged and reviewed in the order of pre-translation,while-translating and proofreading.The third part is the case study.The translator presents the problems and corresponding translation strategies and methods in the process of translation by examples,mainly through lexical level and syntactic level.The fourth part is the conclusion,summarizing the translation project and reflecting the problems that need to be improved.Through this report,the goals of the translator are to summarize the features and terminologies of the medical text and to obtain a preliminary understanding ofmedical knowledge,so as to smooth the translation process and provide corresponding translation strategies and methods to the problems encountered in the process.It is wished that this report can provide a reference for practitioners and students in related fields.
