The feminist movement has been moving forward, bringing it into the third wave.Looking back,Susan B.Anthony, the pioneer of the feminist movement in the United States, spared no efforts in winning fights for women's equal rights. This paper, taking the book Susan B.Anthony: Rebel,Crusader,Humanitarian written by the prominent biographer Alma Lutz as the source text, tries to dig out the translation difficulties at textual, referential and cohesive level.Lexical gap of English religionary words during translation, tendency and inclination to words usage, how to figure out the most appropriate expression while translating sentences concerning inner feelings of the author,image-shaping,concealed historical background information and many coordinative clauses or sense groups and so forth are all the translation difficulties.Targeting at above translation difficulties, this paper, with the help of Peter Newmark's communicative translation approach, tries to generalize such translation strategies as borrowing, transposition, modulation, explicitation, reinventing original sentence structure and so on in informative texts. This paper includes five chapters.Chapter one introduces Alma Lutz, the original text, the rational and the significance of this paper.Chapter two covers a detailed description of the whole translation process.Chapter three, which is of paramount importance, includes the introduction to core concepts of Peter Newmark's communicative translation approaches.Case study will be done in chapter four at textual, referential and cohesive level.Chapter five tries to highlight the corresponding context of using specific translation methods in biographical texts and the applicability of communicative translation in traditional biographies.
